GREEN WATERS FOUNDATION TURNS ONE
On 12 June 2008, Green Waters celebrated its one year anniversary with a fundraising event. Next to introducing our foundation and project MIKITA, we aimed to bring together people of different nationalities, whether they live inside or outside of the Netherlands. We are proud to say that we have achieved that.
The evening started with the first guests arriving at 6:30 pm and soon everyone mingled. More than once one could hear people looking forward to the formal introduction of MIKITA.
With an inspiring speech, Green Waters Managing Director, Stella Tesha, officially welcomed the guests. Julius Kambarage Nyerere, first president and father of the nation Tanzania, is being named by Stella as an inspiration and the greatest hero ever lived in Africa. His words ‘The people are the foundation for development’ were clearly stated in her speech. These words should make us think of empowering the people, so they can make a strong foundation.
As an extension of the speech, the presentation of MIKITA rolled in the background during dinner. One could see everyone trying to link the speech with the projects concept. The questions our guests asked us throughout the evening confirmed, that we had caught their interest.
The presentation of Berend van der Lans, Co-Founder of ArchiAfrika and our guest of honour, had everyone’s attention. It showed that everyone can make a difference to the development of society. With a painting representing Green Waters target group, we thanked Mr. van der Lans for his contribution and support
The official part ended and the evening proceeded with dancing, drinking and networking. Famous Tanzanian DJ George Simba chose just the right tunes for the evening. The 80’s, 90’s, Spanish Marenge, the popular Tanzanian music called “Bongo Flavour” and music from all over Africa had everyone dancing until they couldn’t feel their feet anymore.
Raffle prizes donated by Stella and Bianka had everyone buying tickets. The drawn later provided a little break for everyone’s dancing feet.
It is our goal to have more committed people as business partners and team members of Green Waters, so that we will be able to reach our goal and help African communities gain crucial business skills.
Our first fundraising was a small event but a successful one. We accomplished to make people aware of who we are, what we have achieved during the past year and what we aim to achieve in the future. The evening brought everyone together and strengthened our networks.
Green Waters would like to thank everyone who helped us, especially:
- Theater Hal 4 for providing the location and the technical support.
- Toko94 for the beautifully prepared dinner, the spicy exotic variety was just right for the occasion.
- Olaf Henneveld for his committed assistance and support in so many ways.
- DJ George Simba for his contribution of entertainment
We are looking forward to seeing you at our next event!
